Tanya's Likes and Dislikes

I see under my name that is says I didn't list any likes or dislikes but I did!!! Last week I had posted the following that I'll post again here :) Thanks!

>>Some of my favorite designers include BLACKBIRD DESIGNS, HOMESPUN ELEGANCE, BRIGHTNEEDLE, LITTLE BY LITTLE, EWE AND EYE, SHEPHERD'S BUSH, LITTLE HOUSE NEEDLEWORKS to name a few. I love houses and alphabets and designs that have an antique-style overall. I like Quaker designs too! I like sweet sayings but short and sweet ones ~ nothing corny. Ha!Oh goodness, this is tough ~ I don't know if I want to concentrate on a theme ~ perhaps just let the stitcher know my preferences and go from there? I don't like mythical things, geometric, fairies, angels, cartoony, cutesy or seasonal stuff. I don't know about finishing yet ~ maybe a quilt or small little pillows. It all depends on how the squares all flow together.

Quilt idea for blocks...

Here is a blog that has a post (5/30) showing a crazy quilt using cross stitch blocks. I love it and thought you might like it too. I have instructions on how to complete it if you're interested.

Greetings from Arkansas!

Hi everyone. I'm Lin from, uh, Arkansas. Proud Alpha of two chihuahuas and one DH. I work at a substance abuse treatment center and also have an ONS. With two jobs, stitching time can sometimes be difficult to come by. But, it manages to be available when REALLY needed.

Elegant is my catchword. I prefer understated designs that show off the stitching. But, never underestimate the power of just the right amount of bling.
Likes: geometrics, florals, pastels, warm & summery designs, cutesy stuff
Dislikes: primative, oranges/blacks

Looking forward to stiching with you all!

Lin

Quilt tutorial

Hello ladies,

I hope the American ladies among us are all enjoying a fabulous Memorial Day.

I was just over at Romy's, and saw that she put up a mini-tutorial for the way she finishes her friendship quilt. This is the way I'm going to finish it, too. I thought you might like to go and see...

Rambling Hello from Lizzy...

Thanks so much Annemarie and Vonna for organising this wonderful exchange! I'm so excited to be a part of this lovely group of stitchers and look forward to sharing squares with you all! :-)

I'm Lizzy from North Carolina... I have three adult children... My eldest son, Elisha is 26, my daughter, Brandy is 24 and my youngest son, Jamie is 21. We have five house cats... Gandalf the Grey, Shelley, Merlin, Casper and Bubbles... And an adorable new Brindle Tiger Stripe Pit Bull puppy, Sasha...

My stitching tastes are a wee bit on the eclectic side... I love anything Old fashioned, Primitive, Americana, Samplers, Quakers, Seasonal... Anything with Rabbits, Blackbirds/Crows or Cats... and some Mythical/Fantasy... I suppose you could say I love anything that strikes my fancy! A few of my all-time favourite designers are: Blackbird Designs ~ Homespun Elegance ~ Carriage House Samplings ~ La-D-Da ~ The Prairie Schooler ~ The Sampler Girl ~ Ewe & Eye & Friends ~ Sheepish Designs ~ The Workbasket ~ Little House Needleworks ~ Country Cottage Needleworks ~ Elizabeth's Designs ~ Bent Creek ~ Heart In Hand ~ The Trilogy ~ Praiseworthy Stitches ~ With My Needle ~ The Goode Huswife ~ Hillside Samplings ~ Hands to Work ~ Shepherd's Bush ~ Lizzie*Kate ~ Waxing Moon ~ I could go on and on... ;-) The only thing I'm not overly fond of are very cartoonish designs and geometric designs.

As for a theme... I don't have one... I'll be happy with anything my partner chooses. I'll be finishing my squares into smalls, and I am sure I will love whatever you stitch for me! And as for colours... I'm a wee bit partial to Antique Rose, burgundy, cranberry, mauve, evergreens, teals, sea greens and sea blues, yellows, earth tones, muted shades and shades of Autumn... So I guess you could say I love them all... :-)

Thanks again, Annemarie and Vonna for organising this friendship exchange... :-) I am so looking forward to getting started... If you want to know more about me and see some of my stitching, please drop by my blog anytime... A Stitching Faery's Haven ...

Hi ladies!

I am really excited to be here. I have been reading your blogs and am happy that I will finally be doing some exchanges with you.

I'm Margaret Wong from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You can call me MW since we have another Margaret here (Hi Margaret! :D ). I'm 49 and have been cross stitching for more than 20 years. I have been doing exchanges with my local groups and also an international Christmas ornament exchange Group. I love Prairie schooler, LHN, CCN, Brightneedle, Homespun Elegance, Drawn Thread, SB and all French designs. I do not particularly like mystical, cartoons, religion and geometrics. Other than that, I do not really mind any designs.

I shall be finishing my squares into a wall hanging or a bell pull. I have not decided yet but will probably have a good idea when I see the squares I receive. Here's to a great friendship exchange! Cheers!

Hello Everyone!

Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Hannah. I'm a 23 year old from Tampa, FL. I am a full time dispatcher for the local cable company and full-time girlfriend to my loving boyfriend. We have no kids of our own, yet, but plan to one day after we are married.

I have been stitching since I was about 13. I taught myself from a kit. In the last few years, I've become a little more serious about it. I often dream of opening up my own ONS.

I plan to make small fobs with all of my squares. I think I will probably edge them all with cording. I took a basketry class last year and have the perfect hand-made basket to store them in :) One could pull each fob out individually to admire.

My Likes: Anything and absolutely everything girlie. Anything Blue. Anything Fall-themed or colored. LHN, CCN, HIH, CHS, Shepherd's Bush, Prairie Schooler, JN, anything Quaker... just to name a few =)

My Dislikes: Mystical - Dragons, Fairies, etc. Religion, Cartoons, Cats, Celtic, Chocolate, Geometric

If you'd like, you can check out my blog here. Feel free to link me as a friend and I'll do the same. I look forward to stitching for and exchanging with each and every one of you!

I think I am going to go design my name/date/location square now :)

I've been thinking

which is always dangerous for me and I think I know now what I want to do with my squares. I have been working on the Sampler book (very slowly) by Erica Michaels and I think I would like to do something like that with my squares. I could make each persons I receive into a page (front and back) and then make a cute little cross stitch book out of all of them. Something I could have for a very long time and show people!! What do you think??? Here is a picture of the sampler book

Hi everyone....

I'm Sandy and I'm from Louisiana. I like Quaker designs, seasonal, samplers, welcome sayings, things with ABC's, religious themes, gardening and flowers. I don't do animals, dragons, mystical, castles, cartoons types. My favorite colors are jewel tones like reds, greens, blues, burgandy's, etc. I likes some pastels if it's in the pattern that's fine but I'm more of a darker color person.

My favorite designers are Little House Needleworks, any Quaker designers, Prairie Schooler, Blackbird Designs, Shepherd's Bush, Lizzie Kate, Bent Creek, Heart In Hand, and most recently I've discovered french designers like a mon ami Pierre. There's so many more but I won't bore you all.

I'm not sure what I'd like to do with my squares. I'm very finishing challenged so I may get them made into a quilt if I can find someone who quilts as I don't know anyone personally. I would love to have a Friendship quilt with different pieces from different stitchers from around the world.

I don't mind my partner giving me any hints whatsoever as to what they'd like stitched for their square either. Anything will help me out.

Can't wait to start the exchange and thanks for having me. You can go to my blog and see some of my recent finishes there also. http://sandysstitchingandstuff.blogspot.com/

Sounds like great fun!!

I'm Louise and I live in ID. I was born here, but not raised. I've been married for almost 8 years and have two boys and three girls. I also have 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I love reading, sewing, playing the piano and flute, and fishing and camping. I love cross stitching and am always working on something. I am open to just about any designs, but especially love quilts, seasonal things, realistic angels, (not cartoony), and short sayings, especially those relating to stitching. I am always open to something new!! I don't like really like mythical things or faries. I don't know about finishing yet ~ maybe a quilt or small little pillows. It all depends on how long I can keep up and how things flow together! I am excited about participating!!

Hi, everyone!

Thank you, Vonna and Annemarie, for letting me join this exchange! I'm terribly excited about the whole thing!

I'm Lauren from Raleigh, NC. My blog is here. I'm not terribly picky (well, at least *I* don't think I am :) ), so I'll just give you all an idea of my current favorites. I love samplers (especially Quakers), and my current favorite designers are LHN, CCN, Blackbird Designs, Homespun Elegance, and Brightneedle. I have absolutely no idea yet what I'm going to do with my squares... hopefully inspiration will strike!

Blog Links

Ok Ladies,
If you'd like your blogs attached to your Likes/Dislikes in the sidebar that I've thrown together....AND your blog isn't attached to your likes/dislikes...would you mind e-mailing yours truly and giving me the link so that I can put it in your column? (I know I could probably find it as I'm a reader of most of your blogs...but it would just be easier if you e-mail me your blog url so that I can copy and paste) I'm lazy :)
Thanks girls...we're up to 23 participants!!!!! I'm looking forward to doing this with all of you and getting to know you all better :)

What fun!

Hey there!
Thank you, Annemarie for posting about it on your Blog and tempting me with the thrill of it all!

I'm Tanya and design under The Sampler Girl. I live in VA, my homestate. I've been married for 11 years and have two boys; Ben who will be 8 in June, and Zack, who is nearly 4 months old. SO I don't have big blocks of stitching time right now but I make do here and there. I'm a night owl therefore I get most my designing and stitching done when the moon is out! I also love to read and knit so shuffle free time back and forth. Oh and I adore a good cookbook so well, we eat well :)

Ha!

Oh goodness, this is tough ~ I don't know if I want to concentrate on a theme ~ perhaps just let the stitcher know my preferences and go from there? I don't like mythical things, geometric, fairies, angels, cartoony, cutesy or seasonal stuff. I don't know about finishing yet ~ maybe a quilt or small little pillows. It all depends on how the squares all flow together.

Hello!

Hi ladies! My name is Cheryl and im from Scotland. I think this exchange is a great idea and am really looking forward to taking part! Thanks to Vonna and Annemarie for organising this. I think i would like to make my squares into a quilt but i might change my mind down the line :)
I like to think that i'm not fussy but here's some idea of my likes/dislikes. Im not too keen on magical/mystical designs or cartoon/cutesy designs. Some of my favourite designers include Little House Needleworks, Country Cottage Needleworks, Brightneedle, Carriage House Samplings, Ink Circles but in no way am i limited to those! I love all colours.
Can't wait to start and see what everyone stitches! Looking forward to getting to know those of you i've never "met" before

Hi all

I came across this Friendship Square Exchange when I visited Barbara's blog recently and emailed Vonna to sign up. I'm really excited as this is my first international "friendship exchange". I'm Yasmin, 45 years old and a mom to 2 teenagers, a boy and a girl. I've been stitching for some years but on and off. Only recently have I started to stitch seriously. On the friendship square exchange, I love samplers especially french samplers, quakers, Prairie Schooler, LHN, Blackbird Designs, AMAP, Dessins DHC, CHS and Birds of a feather to name a few. I dislike cartoonmy, whimsical, biblical and mystical designs. I will be using my squares as individual pieces.BTW I love all colours esp those overdyes threads. Well, I'm going to start looking for patterns and 32 ct linen from my stash.

Hello Everybody

My name is Vicki. I am a 43 year old single mom of two. I work night shift in an NICU unit as an RN. I have been stitching off and on for about 20 years - have been stitching more frequently since my children have gotten a little older and don't require as much of my time to entertain them. My favorite items are of animals (cartoon and real life), fantasy items, and birds. I am open to just about anything though. I haven't really decided what I will make, possibly a quilt or wall hanging. Can't wait to see what everybody creates.

Additional info

After reading Annemarie's post I realized there is something I prefer not to receive. Like Annemarie - please no Disney/cartoons. If my exchange partner has any questions I will of course be more than happy to answer them.

Also wanted to let you know that I will be out of town from May 30 through June 3. I don't want my you to feel I've dropped off the face of the earth the moment the partners are announced.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Me likey...

Hey girls,

I'm so glad that you're already enjoying yourselves, although we haven't even officially started yet. I read all your posts and thought it was time to tell you something about my plans with your squares, my likes and my (very few) dislikes. I intend to make a quilt out of the squares, but perhaps I might use one or two for something a bit smaller. I really don't want to stick to a particular theme. I'm sure I will like anything you choose to stitch for me. Of course, there are a couple of things I'm not too fond off, like Disney-cutesy, or those really old-fashioned florals. I love samplers, alphabets, quakers. Favourite designers? A pretty eclectic bunch, actually: Blackbird Designs, La-D-Da, the Goode Huswife, Carriage House Samplings, Jeremiah Junction, Bent Creek, Monsterbubbles, Little House Needleworks, The Sampler Girl... Oh, what's the use? I like everything. As long as you enjoy stitching it, I'll enjoy receiving it!

Hello

Hello everyone,

I think this will be lots of fun. I plan to make my squares into a quilt. It would be nice to see all the squares together. I like basically anything except no angels or biblical things please. Other than that you have free will on what you stitch for me. My fav colors are purples and dark greens so thats probably what I am going to stick with. I bought some 32 count white linen yesterday and am just waiting for it to arrive. Now to go look for some patterns that fit that 50 x 50 guideline. :o)

Ramblings...

Hello everyone,
Trying to catch up on all the posts. We had a terrible thunderstorm yesterday around 3:00 and we lost power, phone, internet, water and a couple of massive maple trees. I couldn't get home ; my lane was covered by a telephone pole that came crashing on a maple and wires and wood were everywhere. I had to drive my corolla in the field! It's been a day; lots a chain saws everywhere.
I guess I am supposed to tell you what I like. Well...my name is samplerknn, so that is the first hint! I love all things samplers, especially reproduction and quaker. Love just about all colors except too bright. Will be happy with anything though, as I truly appreciate anything "hand did". (That from a sales clerk at Neiman Marcus in Dallas..long story!) I quilt, stitch and rug hook so I really love it all!
I think this is going to be fun. I plan to do smalls with mine, but who knows? I have been known to fondle a stitched peice for weeks before I frame it!
I hope everyone is stitching more than I.
Karen in Maryland

Update on what I like!

I also like Quaker designs, Workbasket, Drawn Thread, Just Nan, oh heck, I like it all! I love Halloween and Santas! I'm not a big floral person though. Blackbird designs, Little House Needleworks!
I am very excited about participating in the square exchange. I haven't decided if I'll do a wall hanging quilt, or make small goodies with the squares. I guess I'll let the squares decide for me.
I'm ready to start my square!
Donna

Hi, I'm Margaret

Just a few words to introduce myself to the 'Fair and Square' gang which I'm thrilled to be a part of. My name is Margaret and I have been stitching since I was about 20 and loved it from the first moment. Wednesday is always an important day in my week as that is when I get together with my stitching friends at our local LNS. They are a great bunch and we share not only our love of cross stitching but books, our lives and our ideas about the world in general.

Now is the moment that I'm supposed to let you in on what I would like my square to look like. I have thought about it long and hard, listed some likes and dislikes and then decided to basically leave it up to the stitcher. I am sure that anything any one of you makes will be lovely. Since I plan to make single items out of the squares theme should be no problem.

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Hey there everyone!

I'm Amy from SC, nice to meet everyone! I've been stitching 30+ years and I like many different things. I love most anything with rabbits, gardening, flowers, trees, hearts, I do like religious themes, and I especially love Quakers and samplers. I do not care for cartoon'ish or mystical designs and I don't care for pastel pink unless it's part of a flower or is just a small part of a design. My fav colors are reds, greens, plums and clay/terra cotta colors. I also like blues & earth tones as well.
I will be using my squares to make individual items instead of a quilt, so the themes can vary greatly! You might get more ideas from my blog if you care to visit. :-)

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone better and I can't wait to see what everyone stitches!
Hugs,
Amy

Greetings from Julie

Hello fellow exchangers! Its so very nice to meet those of you I don't know and visit with those I do.

I'm going to be stitching my piece on a stiff piece of linen as that is what I'm most comfortable with right now and even though I'm new to linen, I'll do my very best to stitch something lovely for whoever I'm paired with.

Vonna has added my likes/dislikes to the side bar. If you'd like to see more of what I like, please visit my blog and see the patterns I purchased on the recent shop hop. That should tell you a bit about my tastes. I will appreciate what ever you stitch for me.

This is my first exchange and I'm very much excited and appreciative to be a part of this.

Hi Everyone

I found this by reading Romy's blog and I just knew I had to join! I love the idea of a friendship quilt from all over the world. I am a 51 year old widowed woman and have been stitching for more years than I want to admit to...wait I already told you how old I was! hehehe I started stitching back in1980 and my tastes have changed over the years. I am like most of us here and have way more stash than I will ever stitch. I have gotten into samplers, in the last year. I love them all! I like the folk art ones, quakers ones band samplers...you get the idea I love them all! I also collect teapots and shoes so I have a few of those charts to stitch one day. I am not really going to pick a theme for my squares I am going to let the stitcher choose as that way it will truely be a friendship quilt. The only thing I really don't like is "cutsey" stuff. When it comes time for names if my person needs ideas I will be more than happy to help with designers I like or give examples of things.

Can't wait to "meet" everyone.

Peg

French Toile Quilt in Mind

Hello, Fair & Squarers!! I'm so happy to be one of you and to start stitching together. I'm planning on making a quilt from the squares you send me.

I have a fabric which will be my primary quilting fabric. It's a french toile in a medium pink background with children playing with lambs, children playing tumbling and children collecting straw with a little church with a tall steeple in the background, and flowering trees in the foreground...it has wreaths surrounding these motifs in multi-pinks (DMC 760-761 family) and reds (DMC 347 range) & white roses. There are different colors of greens, and a pretty blue (DMC 504ish) stream, also.

So, anything you want to stitch that I can put in my little quilt would be so welcomed. I love girly things...like the Bright Needle girls and such... and French things, of course...little lambs... twinning little roses and birds...whatever you can think of and want to stitch! This is just to give you some ideas. Please don't misunderstand, I don't mean to dictate every part!!

Thank you so much, I will always treasure your parts in my quilt. And, I look forward to sending you stitched pieces that you will love and treasure, as well!

Hugs,
Deb

Hi Ladies....Let me know what your themes are and I'll post them by participant in the sidebar...this way you have a quick reference as to what your partner is wanting/not wanting for their squares :)
Good Idea...??? I've already made up Donna's, Terry's and Mine...in the side bar...so post what your likes/dislikes are and I'll make you up a sidebar reference :)
Thank you for your enthusiasm!!
~Vonna

Hello Everyone

I'm Terry and I am very pleased to meet all of you. This is going to be a lot of fun. I am open to any design, any color, anything you like. I will be making your squares into single items rather than a quilt. I love seeing what other people like to stitch!!! Can't wait to get started!

And she's off..

Since I am probably the only one of us you don't know, i will first introduce myself.
I am a 51 year "young" mom, wife, and speech language pathologist. I am a quilter, stitcher and reader. I am passionate about samplers; I don't stitch anything "cutesy" or pictoral. Just samplers. And mostly quaker. In the last five years, I have done very little stitching as the eyes make it very hard. I used to stitch on 32 and up but, these days, 28ct can be tolerated quite well. (I can't do 36 at all anymore....) I have about 1000 WIPs...ok..I stretch the truth, which is closer to 50...but dang....those ziplock baggies seem to muliply! All samplers. I have another 100+ charts that I will not get around to stitching if I live to be 600. I may take the advise of another older stitcher. She has resorted to framing the charts!
I am excited about this swap. I haven't swapped stitching before, but have been quite active swapping quilt blocks for the past couple of years. Since I now have more quilts than I could ever use, it's back to stitching.
I have been searching for a pattern; almost had it last night but wouldn't you know...it was 56 stitches high. So, it is back to the drawing board tonight. I will be using silks and antique white to stitch it, whatever IT is!
In these, do you post what colors etc you are drawn to, etc. I just am a rookie...please be gentle.

Karen in MD (samplerknn)

Hi Ladies!

I'm all in! I have my first square design already picked out! I love country, primitive, think old timey if you will! I think everyone should stitch something that they know their partner would like! I will post on my blog more ideas of things I like! I'm ready to get started!

Themes

Hey ladies,

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic responses to out intitative. I can assure all of you that Vonna and I are thrilled!

We've discussed this 'quilt by theme' thing some of you have mentioned, and we decided that's not really the way to go. Now, before you trod off and demand you have your name removed from the list of participants, let me hasten to say that you are, of course, all free to ask of your friends what you want. If you want your quilt (or squares, pinkeeps, needlebooks, whatever you want to make of the squares) to be a particular theme, you're free to ask the other participants to stitch something in that theme for you. That way, everybody gets what they want in the end. Heck, post your wishes on this very blog, and we will all take your wishes into account. Is this something you can all live with? Let us know! We're always open to suggestions.

As for the idea of posting something about Fair and Square in your own blogs, of course you're very welcome to do so! The more the merrier!

Happy stitching. Have you all rummaged through your stash yet, in search of 50 x 50 square material?

Edited (By Vonna): some of you have mentioned concerns about the size of the fabric...if you will go over to http://fairsquaresrules.blogspot.com you will see that I modified the size of the square of fabric to be stitched on and sent to the recipient. The size of the fabric shall be (and will not be changed) 7 in X 7 in. The reason I chose this is that the design is 50 x 50 this will give all recipients 2 inches to manipulate the square to fit their finishing needs. This also allows the squares to be sent in a smaller parcel. This is the final decision. All squares submitted shall be 50 x 50 stitches for the design (this is for stitching over 2 threads of linen). No backstitching around the design is required, as there have been some concerns about that...you may put a basting stitch to map out your 50 x 50 so the stitcher has guidelines, but this should be removed prior to sending. 2 inches on all sides should give each recipient ample space to do what they need to do to finish the square. Thanks for your insight, I hope this helps everyone with their concerns. ~Vonna

Welcome to Fair and Square!

Hello all, and thank you for visiting Fair and Square.

As you probably know by now, this is a blog in which our Friendship Quilt Square exchange group will report its activities. I think you will agree with me that Vonna did a terrific job in setting up this blog, and the blog explaining our rules.

Now that you have all read the rules, a few questions have arisen among you lot. One of them is a concern about the actual size of the squares. Some of you pointed out that they may not have enough patterns that would fill a square of 50 X 50 stitches. Please don't worry about that. The point is that a stitched piece should never exceed 50 X 50 stitches; that doesn't mean to say that whatever you stitch should completely fill the alloted area. Please feel free to stitch anything you like, even if it's smaller than 50 X 50 stitches. As long as the 'quilters' among us end up with a set of equally large squares.

Some of you were also wondering about the timeframe. Vonna and I decided to start the 'pairing procedure' on June 1st, which means you will receive the name of your first exchange partner on that date. Our first deadline for posting will be on July 15th. That's still quite a long way away. Right? Plenty of time to go through your stash, in search of something that would fit in a 50 x 50 stitch square :o)

In the course of the next few weeks, I will try and pimp the header of this blog into something a bit more colourful, to make it into a nice, cozy meeting place, where we can all share our fair squares.

Well, that's it from me for now. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at anvladar at yahoo dot com, or leave a comment, and Vonna or I will get back to you ASAP.

I hope you will all enjoy this Friendshp Quilt Square Exchange Experience. Happy stitching!
