Tossing for Georgie

Time to share my toss floss for Georgie as I will be starting her Fair Square tomorrow.

Georgie shared things she likes and I have picked out a number of them to combine into her square. She likes antiques/Americana and I personally think that floss with the name 'Old Red Paint' certainly fits the bill. Other things she likes which I hope to incorporate into the square are: birds, hearts and samplers.

'Old Red Paint' on 32 ct 'oyster' linen

OK Georgie, enjoy trying to figure out what I am stitching for you. No more hints from here.

Absolutely Spoilt!

Staci is amazing, those are the beautiful blocks she sent me (and she managed to stitch them so quickly too!)
This came so beautifully wrapped i did not want to open it and spoil it, then curiosity got the better of me and i had to pick! Inside i found the most beautifully and neatly stitched squares, they are called "Tree of Life Workbox Pincushion" designed by Phyllis Hoffman from the Spring 2001 issue of Sampler and Antique needlework. She has coffee dyed the fabric slightly which suits the colours of the threads perfectly.

As an extra treat she also sent me a bundle of DMC variations threads and a lovely Colorado calendar. Thank-you so much! I just love it, i am so overwhelmed by the kindness and genrosity of stitchers all over the world!
Thank-you Staci- my squares will be on its way to you very soon,
Nicky

From Heidi to Peg Round 3

Received my squares from Heidi but have just not had a minute to get them posted. They are lovely and I can't wait till I have enough to make my friendship quilt. It's getting harder now with each one I get not to make them into other smalls...hope I can hold out till I get from everyone to make a quilt.

Sign me up for the next round I believe it is round 5. I almost am ready to send my squares off to Nancy for this round.

Round 5 please

Sign me up for round 5!

Square from Becky K. :-)

Here's a picture of the square that Becky K. stitched for me. Sorry that it has taken me over a week to post a picture. Becky I like my spooky web a lot! I especially love how you signed it which unfortunately doesn't show up so well in my picture :-( Thanks for the over-dyed floss as well :-)

ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ!

Alright members, we've had SEVERAL people not follow through with their squares this time around, I'm not talking about just mailing late or something like that...I'm talking not stitching, not mailing period! Let me remind everyone that the rules *plainly* read that all squares can be stitched and mailed within the six week time frame and there are two weeks of "clean up". Here we are starting a new Round...and I'm still tracking down squares that were supposed to have been sent a month ago...or close to it.

I stopped doing the send/rec'd list in the sidebar (like I had done the previous rounds) because I had 10 or so e-mails from people who thought that it was obtrusive and was embarrassed if their name wasn't crossed off the list because they HAD sent (but had NOT received). Well let me tell you...when I kept that list and tracked it in the sidebar....I didn't have the issues I'm having this round with people not sending their squares, or not posting to the board when they sent their squares, or not posting to the board when they received their squares!

This round we're going back to the old way - I'm tracking it in the sidebar. Things that had better change this round is:
  1. Members should post to the board when they SEND their squares.
  2. Members should post to the board when they RECEIVE their squares.
  3. Members should mail "on time" or just a few days late, (no other board that I belong too and I belong to many), allows blatant disregard for mail dates, and if they are going to be late we have to e-mail both the moderators and the partners to let them know of our lateness.
  4. I would HIGHLY recommend that you set up a reader/alert monitor (may I recommend either google reader or bloglines) to track updates to this board so that you can remain informed.
  5. please use the labels under the posts by using your name; partners name; round when posting about sending and receiving.

Sorry that I once again have to get my tail feathers in a wad, but please, look at it from my stand point - I put a lot of time into this board (which I enjoy and love to do) 95% of the time everyone is on the up and up. There is just that 5% time that things go awry. I've been getting e-mails off and on now for 2 weeks about partners not getting their squares. So this is not an unsolicited rant...please give myself and each other consideration. I try to do that with you when I sign you up to the board.

Thank you!

Round 3 Squares from Tuula

My Fair and Square blocks arrived from Tuula on Saturday! When Tuula asked me what she should stitch on her square, I suggested a Finnish design. On the block she sent me, Tuula stitched a cap that is typically worn by reindeer owners in Lapland. Along with the square, she sent me some mittens knitted with a traditional Lapland pattern. I love them! Finally, she also sent me a calendar with beautiful pictures of Finland. I will be reminded of our friendship each time I look at it! Thank you Tuula!

Marg's Round 3 Squares to Me!

These are the lovely squares I received from Marg, so pretty and dainty...She was also thoughtful enough to send me a Just Nan chart from my wishlist. Thank you so very much Marg, I love the outline of Australia on the signature chart!!!

A Newbie :)

Hi to everyone from a newbie :) My name is Tash, I'm 24 years old and I'm studying nursing at uni in Sydney, Australia. I started stitching when I was 6, but my technique has improved a little since then LOL. My blog is here, so go and check it out if you like.

I've seen so many pics of the squares of people's blogs, and I can't wait to get started myself! I'll be in round 5, so bring on January 18th!

<3 Tash

Michelle W. My Squares arrived!

Hi, there, Michelle. Your fabulous present arrived yesterday and it was like an early Christmas! I love the squares you stitched for me. That is a design I had thought I'd like to buy! I have this thing for squirrels and birds. I already have them made into the cutest pinkeep, but unfortunately, I will be posting a picture pre-pinkeep because my photographer-daughter took a picture of them before I made them up. I love the other treasures you sent. The dish is sooo cute and will look great with my all-white dishes! The towel and project bag are also great and will get lots of use at my house. I had so much fun joining you in my first on-line exchange. It's been a pleasure, Michelle. Thank you. Pam E. ( As soon as my daughter emails the pix I will post one!

Round #3 from Ulla received

I received my squares from Ulla in the mail yesterday! Thank you so much, Ulla, I love the design that you stitched for me, especially the Santa in his sleigh!

And here is a picture of the squares I sent to Ulla:

Sorry I had to back out for the next round of the exchange, too many Christmas commitments coming up, but please sign me up for Round #5, Vonna.

Anxious to Start Swapping!

Hello, my name is Jill and I just joined this exchange. I'm excited and can't wait to get started.

I am 48 years old and live in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota with my husband and son. I have been cross stitching for 35+ years and also do hardanger. I stitch with a group of friends once a week but make a conscience effort to stitch everyday. We have little stitching retreats about 2 times a year.

Looking forward to meeting new stitchers!

Thank you Nicky R

I received a lovely Square from Nicky R last Friday. I am sorry i could not post immediately then as I am having internet connection problems for a week already and still do. The telecoms people cannot find what's wrong yet! I am logging from elsewhere.

Nicky stitched me a beautiful LHN piece and no, the fabric is not as crumpled as we all mentally picture it to be . LOL! I love it, it's my fave designer and I will post a pic as soon as my broadband is OK. Hugs to you, Nicky!

This IS a "friendship squares exchange" so become friends! Thats why I give you all the information!

TRACKING Sent/Rec'd Squares: I will again be adding sent/rec'd status on the sidebar. I tried it this round not keeping it on the sidebar and we've had some problems crop up....so it's coming back. THANK YOU!
This is our biggest exchange yet! Thanks for all you lovely exchangers out there! We're quite a popular group apparently! :) Have a great week!

Hi everyone!

I´m 42 years old and live in the southern part of Sweden with my husband. Up until just recently I have mostly been crocheting, knitting and sewing. Then by chance I stumbled upon the 2007 issue of Christmas Ornaments and decided to make one for this years X-mas tree. So now I have rediscovered my love of stitching (I did some about 20-25 years ago) and I´m throwing myself in with all you pro´s!!

I have been married for almost 30 years and have 6 grown children and
just became a grandma last January. Can't believe I am old enough for
that!

I am really excited to be a part of the Fair and Square Exchange.
I can't wait to get started.

I have a great group of friends and we get together on Friday nights

the name for my blog came from--Stitching Squad-- so
check out my new blog: Stitching Squad.

I am very new at blogging so hopefully with the help
from my son I will be able to master my blog.

Happy Stitching!!!!

PEG

Peg,
Would you please send your address and e-mail to Heidi....apparently after multiple attempts over the past month, she's not getting e-mails from me. So I have no way of contacting her and short of posting your address here on the board - which we don't want to do that! Thank you!

Heidi,
I sent you mulitple copies of all the e-mails I sent you this month. If you don't get it today. Let me know again.

Cathy, your squares are finally on their way....

Hello Cathy! Sorry for the delay! I´ve sent your squares today. I hope it will not take too long for you to get them and that you like them too.

Ruth - It Got Here

Here is the adorable square that I received from Ruth today. It is so cute. I absolutely love it. My sister is trying to steal it from me. Thank you. Thank you, Ruth. I love the flosses. These are colors that I don't have and will add a lot to my collection.

Hello All

My name is Laura (Laura K. here), and I am eagerly looking forward to participating in the next round of the Fair and Square exchange. I love all the squares which I have seen here. I have visited and been inspired by the beautiful stitching on many of your web pages for a long time, and participated in some SALs, but this will be a first stitching exchange for me. Thank you so much for letting us newbies join in your fun!

Marg

Hi there,

Just checking in to see if my squares have gotten there yet, we are past three weeks and unless they are walking there I am starting to get worried....:).......

Monday, November 5, 2007

Hello! Hello!

Hi,
My name is Stacey and I live in Brisbane, Australia.
I've been stitching since I was 11 years old, but have been more committed to my stitching over the last couple of years.
I have 3 cats, a dog, a mouse, and a guinea pig so I do tend to stitch with *specialty* fibres! However, I do try to pick out as many as I can from my work.
I am really looking forward to this exchange, as it will be my first!

If you would like to get to know me a bit better you can visit my blog at: Stacey's Stitchy Bits

I think the only two people who read it however are my mum and my best friend!

-Stacey

Blocks from Margaret W.

These are my beautiful blocks from Margaret Wong in Kuala Lumpur! It is a combination of LHN patterns, She also sent me some beautiful Overdyed threads from a local lady in my favourite colour, I feel so lucky! She is a wonderfully neat stitcher.
Margaret, if you are reading this post please excuse the unpressed blocks i mailed you. I completed and posted my squares whilst on holidays and i did not trust the rusty old iron at the place we were staying and i wanted to mail by the deadline. I am so sorry but i am sure that you will be able to press them out with a more trust worthy iron although i am very sorry, especially seeing the beautiful way yours arrived. Please forgive me!!
Sign me up for round 4 please Vonna!

Vonna, please sign me up for round 4.

Blog swap newbie

Good morning from chilly Minnesota!

Good morning from chilly Minnesota! My name is Teresa and I am posting this very first blog entry ever on a gorgeous, sunny fall day in southeast Minnesota. I live in Burnsville, just blocks away from Crystal Lake. This is not my first swap, but I haven't participated in one for a few years. I learned about this one from my zany friend Neila; aka the queen of swaps. Looking forward to meeting many new people and chatting about life!

I've been stitching, crafting, sewing, and such since I was three; the age when us girls were taken under gramma's wing and taught everything she knows. I did the stamped designs for many years and then learned counted cross-stitch from a mail order free kit when we were stationed in Ohio. One of the best things about living in MN is a group of close friends called the stitching chicks. Although we are all vastly different, this group has become a lifeline and support network for all.

Other than stitching, I enjoy spending as much time as possible reading or working on a new creative writing piece in my purple office. Walking down to the hidden spot by the lake is a perfect way to spend a few quiet hours just thinking. Our kids are all pretty much grown now, the youngest is a freshman in college, but soon we'll get to spoil a new baby--first grandkid is due in Feb.!

A Loonie Newbie

I am very excited to be a part of Fair and Square which I learned about from reading Carol S.'s blog. It is amazing what you can find when reading blogs, isn't it?

I live in Bloomington, MN, in the shadow of the Mall of America. I've been stitching for well over 35 years. I was taught to do stamped cross stitch by my grandmother as a child and learned counted cross stitch from my sister-in-law while living in Tunisia. I was immediately hooked and have accumulated quite an unmanageable stash since that time. My motto is that I can't leave this earth until I've finished it all.

Besides stitching, I enjoy reading, travel to both near and far (just returned from Scotland in September), knitting, and friends. I hope to make some new friends here.

ROUND #3 Completed ~ Sign ups ~~~

Round #3 is now finished :) Thanks to all the square exchangers. We'll have a 2 week down time now for all the squares to travel in the mail.

Sign ups are still being taken for Round #4 - sign ups will close on Nov. 14. Names will be drawn and exchange by Nov. 16. I will post to the board once EVERYONE has been e-mailed with their partner information. I will then post the partners for Round #4 to the board.

Please notice I've also posted the rounds up through Round #7! And we're up to 72 members on the board and I get an e-mail about every day asking me questions or wanting to sign up. All the lovely squares sent and received are testimony to our great community! Thanks for being a great group to work with!

Squares from Donna

I received these lovely squares today from Donna. She also included a JBW designs chart - thank-you so much Donna!! Donna asked me what i would like and i said something Christmasy. I love this santa and i plan on making it into an ornament for my Christmas tree. Im going to miss out the next round as i am so busy at the moment but i hope to join in again next year :)

My Squares for Annemarie

I stitched these squares for Annemarie and I know she received them a couple of weeks ago. Annemarie is away from her computer for a bit, so I figured I would share them - didn't want anyone to think I didn't send my squares off. I chose this design because, knowing Annemarie very well, she has more coffee than blood in her veins :-)

Round 3 ~ Ulla's Squares mailed out

They are on their way to you, Ulla! I got to the post office 2 days ago and your squares are now on their merry way. I hope they get to you some time next week. I hope you like the design I picked out for you :-D

Sue's Squares to Stephanie - Round 3

Aren't Sue's squares simply gorgeous!?! I absolutely love them - they are a Just Nan design (I think Primrose Path?) and Sue's stitching is so neat and beautiful. I haven't yet decided what to finish these as, but the gold-headed pins she also sent (along with other goodies) match the gold metallic thread and charm and are screaming out 'pinkeep, pinkeep' to me. I've really enjoyed this exchange, and am now really looking forward to the next round!
Hugs
Stephanie

Lizzy's square on the way

Hi everyone,

Just letting Lizzy know I posted her squares earlier this week so they should be there early next week. Looking forward to the next round Vonna. This was a lot of fun.

Squares Received!!!

Marie, I received my squares from you today and I just love them! You do very nice work and I am looking forward to finishing them into an ornament for my tree. Thank you also for the pretty fabric, thread, needles and cording!!! I know those will come in very handy! I hope we will get to exchange again some day :-)

Mercy...

I'll be mailing your squares on Monday...grades are due and I've been running crazy the last two weeks. Sorry they will be late. Hope you like them!

VIcki.....

... make the mailman hurry up!!!!!!

Becky K!

I mailed your squares today.
Hope you like them :-)
Sign me up for Round 4!

Squares to Kathy Arrive in Aussie!

I'm posting this picture of the squares I stitched for Kathy Roberts from "Downunder." She just received them, but is without a camera. I am little better with my horrible camera, but you can at least see my attempt to make a sort of crazy quilt block for her. She likes Victorian stitchery and I thought this might be a fun twist for her. I attached the ribbon and pieces of fabric with heavier threads to give them the patched look. Kathy will have to tell you herself what she's going to do with the squares and if she likes them!! I had alot of fun making these unconventional pieces. Notice the spider web and little spider who's at odds with the blue bird...just a hint to remind Kathy what time of year this was stitched for her! Deb
