I bought myself a new sewing machine just a few weeks ago and finally started turning my received Fair& Square pieces into finished objects. I've decided to finish them all into little pin cushions and display them together with my ostrich egg in a big basket. This basket is centered on my living room coffee table. It makes me smile every time when I pass by that basket and remember all those great exchanges I had (and still have) in this group.

Round # 27 from Marie P.

I was thrilled that Marie P and I were paired up again for Round #27. Since there's no dedicated Christmas Round this year, we decided to do Christmas themed squares. Little House Needleworks is one of Marie's favorite designers, so I chose Fresh Fallen Snow from the 2011 JCS Ornament issue for her, which you can see in another post.

For me, Marie stitched a lighthouse. PERFECT!! I've been eyeing up this design at my LNS for a while now, and couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger, considering I have plenty of stash and not enough time to stitch it all. Luckily now I don't have to.

Fall Is In the Air!

As I drove home Friday from working out of town all week, I couldn't help but notice the leaves changing in vibrant reds, golds, yellows, etc. I love this time of year so imagine the thrill I received when upon returning home, my Round 27 exchange package had arrived in the mail from Elaine M. She could not have picked out a better design or color choice to do for me. Thank you Elaine for keeping my fall fever going!

Dearest Lynda -- what are you trying to do-- drive me crazy???!

Do you know how many floss tosses I "settled" on for you squares (so far)???? FOUR! Honest to pete. 4. You should see my poor pattern -- it's a scribbly mess of revisions and arrows pointing in new directions to new color choices. Sheesh. Oh and in between toss 3 and toss 4 I dropped my box of bobbins (open and upside down, of course). That was a real joy!

Aside from the fact that my pattern looks like a bad 3rd grade essay after a grumpy teacher has gotten ahold of it), I have another problem -- this weekend Emma Bull (who is you don't know is an American fantasy author) complimented the first of your squares. The last time an author complimented something I was stitching, the designated recipient never got the piece. I don't know. It could be a near thing. (hee heeee)

Ruth's squares flew through Nebraska and safely landed in Pittsburgh. And just look at them! Remember the floss toss she did - turned into these lovely lighthouses and Quaker waters - two things I am really really like. Her stitching over one is wonderful and she put so much thought into how to incorporate the Quaker motifs and then 2 lighthouses. Pt Loma is Ruth's favorite and a west coast beauty. Erie is the closest one to me - and Ruth correctly researched that. How lucky am I to receive these squares. Now I need to do justice to the finishing. Thank you again Ruth for sharing your imagination and skills.

I came home a wonderful package - my squares from Pam. Pam, your presentation is so beautiful, showing a care for your stitching that I hope to begin using in my future exchanges. They were sent perfectly flat, wrapped in tissue paper and protected inside a plastic page protector. My squares are a wonderful collection of Halloween motifs, in the most beautiful colors. I want to take pictures in the daylight, to show the great colors you used, so I will post this weekend.

I couldn't work out what to stitch for Linda for Round 26, but I did know for certain I was going to do it with this color palatte:

Now a week older and possibly a little wiser, I know what I'm stitching and none of the above colors are involved. Now the piece looks to be mostly:

and even two fo those colors are wrong now and there are 5-6 colors missing.

Memo to self: Dear Ruth, Picking colors you want to use *before* you pick th pattern works fine for motif samplers, but doesn't really work in anything else.

I'm so happy be a part of Fair and Square! A bit of info about me...I've been stitching for about 30 years. I taught myself to stitch after I bought a kit of a single butterfly that was going to look just perfect in my bathroom. I was hooked from that point on! My husband and I retired to northwest Arkansas in 2005 from Wisconsin. Since then I've made wonderful stitching friends from all over the world thanks to having extra time and a speedy internet connection. I hope to make new friends here as well. Thanks for including me!

She adapted two designs from the Stitcher's Journey book...Tulip Pincushion and Tulip House Stitching Companion. They are stitched on a light mocha with beautiful soft shades of floss. I was so happy to receive these beautiful squares from Lynda for the Blackbird Designs round!

(Please excuse my horrible photography "skills". I don't know why the squares look so creased - the creases are barely noticeable in real life.)

Lynda used a DMC variegated floss, and the beautiful blues make this so delicate. I love my initial on the front square, and the cute bird on the back. Thank you so much, Lynda!

These are the pretty "Summer" squares that I received from Nancy K. The large motif is from "A Stitcher's Companion," while the signature block motifs and letters are taken from "Pumpkin Blossom needle case."

The floss is hand-dyed perle cotton from the U.K., and it is stitched on 28ct. putty Cashel linen. I love the colors and I plan to make these into a needle book.

These are the squares I received from Shelley P. I absolutely love them, especially the crab motif on the front, and the fish and seaweed on the bottom. Shelley's stitching is just beautiful, and I can't wait to finish these up as a no-sew cube for our living room. I think they'll be a nice match to the lighthouse squares I received last year from Marie P.

This is a Designer Specific Round and the designer is Blackbird Designs. This means your stitched square must be all or part of a Blackbird Design pattern.

I received the most beautiful squares from Kim V for Round #23. I just love them!

These are so beautiful...I just love them. The peacock was a freebie at www.BirdCrossStitch.com, the letters and the little peacock came from Homespun Sampler's "Pollygaton" and "Patience". The fibers used are GAST Avocado and Dried Thyme; WDW Mulberry and Grape Ice; and Kreinik #4 #5740 and #015. PLUS Swavorski crystals. I took a closer up photo to give you a better idea.

Jill was my partner for round 23. I just received my squares and they are so pretty! The designer is Midnight Stitching "A Quaker Floral" stitched on Country Cream with Silk'NColor "Spring Froche"

The poll is closed and thanks to those who took the time to vote on which designer you would be interested in stitching.

The next round, which will be #24, will be a "designer specific" round. This means that the square you stitch must be a design from the designated specific designer. It could an be just a part of a larger design.

The designer for this round will be Blackbird Designs. Signups will open next Friday, April 15. Watch for the posting for it.

I love it and it reminds me of each of the special people who stitched a pair of squares and contributed to my hanging. Thank you all so much. I will take this home to Canada with me in April and it will hang in my sewing/stitching room.

I received a beautiful hardanger snowman from Marcy for the Christmas round. I couldn't get a photo that showed off the metallic threads in him but I'm sure they'll sparkle in the light when he's on my tree next year. This is the first hardanger piece I have and it's as lovely IRL as I thought it would be.

I received the most awesome squares from Kaje! I've seen this Mill Hill pattern around, and always loved it, and I'm so grateful Kaje was willing to do all that solid stitching and beading! The picture doesn't show how sparkly and shiny it is. I can't wait to finish this into something beautiful!

JCS 2010 Ornament Issue

Melissa P was my partner for the Christmas round and she stitched up these squares from the latest JCS ornament issue. Her stitching is just lovely, and her signature square is SO clever! It took me a minute to figure it out, but I love how creative she was with it.

I've been on an ornament finishing kick lately, and it's very possible that these squares will make it to our tree this year. YAY!
