Hi there Toni. On the many blocks I've received and sent, there hasn't been any fray-check used,but they've been cut down to the right size and the edges are usually unfinished. If you stitch on a piece larger than 6 x 6 and use fray-check, you can always cut it off just prior to mailing. Hope this helps some. Janice
